a) What is an operating System? List any two operating system software.
Ans: An operating system software is a special type of system software that controls and co-ordinates the overall operations of the computer system. Eg. Windows, LINUX, etc.
b) What is Microsoft windows?
Ans: Microsoft windows is the most popular Graphical User Interface based operating system software. It was developed by Microsoft Corporation, USA.
c) Write different versions of Windows operating system.
Ans: The different versions of Windows operating system are: Windows-XP, Windows-Vista, Windows-7, Windows-8, Windows-10 etc.
d) What is icon? Draw any two common icons of windows desktop.
Ans: The small picture buttons that represent commands, programs, files or folder are called icons.

f) What is file and folder?

Ans: The collection of related data and information is called file. 

 folder can be considered as container of computer files that contain multiple documents, different files or sub-folder.
g) What are different types of files?
Ans: The different types of files are data files, text files, program files, directory files etc.
h) What is meant by file extension?
Ans: File name has two parts primary name and secondary name. Primary name is a file name and secondary name is the file extension that indicate the types of file like word file has .doc extension. file extension is separated by a dot.
