Computer Hardware and Software
Write very short answer of the following questions.
a) What is computer hardware?
Ans: All the physical parts of a computer that can be touched, seen and felt are called hardware.
b) Which device is known as pointing input device?
Ans: Mouse is known as pointing input device.
c) Write one example of system software.
Ans: Windows is the example of system software.
d) Which type of storage device is better in technology between magnetic and optical?
Ans: Magnetic storage device is better in technology between magnetic and optical.
e) What type of software are compiler and interpreter?
Ans: Compiler and interpreter are Language processor software.
f) What are the types of application software?
Ans: Tailored software and general software are the types of application software.
g) Write any two example of printer.
Ans: Inkjet printer and Dot matrix printer are the two examples of printer.
h) Is scanner peripheral device?
Ans: Yes scanner is peripheral device.
i) What is meant by firmware?
Ans: Firmware is the permanent software programmed into a read-only memory.

Write short answer of the following questions.
a) List any four common hardware devices?
Ans: Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse, System unit are the four common hardware device of computer.
b) What are the different types of computer hardware?
Ans: The different types of computer hardware are:
i) Input Hardware :  Eg. Mouse, Keyboard, Scanner, Joystick etc.
ii) Processing Hardware : Eg. CPU
iii)  Output Hardware : Printer, Monitor, Speaker, Plotters, Projector etc.
iv) Memory and storage hardware: Eg. RAM, ROM, Hard disk, Pen-drive etc.
c) What are input devices? Write with examples.
Ans: The devices that are used to enter data and instructions or commands into the computer are called input devices. Eg. Mouse, Keyboard, Scanner, Joystick etc.
d) What are output devices? write with examples.
Ans: The devices that are used to get processed result or output from the computer are called output devices. Eg. Printer, Monitor, Speaker, Plotters, Projector etc.
e) What is the main function of processing unit.
Ans: The main function of processing unit are:
i) It manages all the resources of the computer.
ii) It executes programs instructions.
iii) It makes decisions.
iv) It performs calculations and tells other parts of computer what to do.
f) What is memory in computer? Write the types of main memory.
Ans: Memory also known as primary storage or main memory is the place of computer where program (instructions) and data are stored during the processing. Memory storage are fixed on the motherboard inside the computer. Random Access Memory and Read Only Memory are the types of memory in the computer.
g) Differentiated between RAM and ROM.
Ans:
ROM
RAM
a. It stands for Read only memory.
a. It stands for Random Access Memory
b. It is non volatile or permanent memory.
b. It is volatile or temporary memory.
c. It is startup memory of a computer
c. It is working memory of computer.
h) What are storage devices? Write any two magnetic storage devices.
Ans: The devices that are used to store data, programs and information permanently for the future use are known as storage devices. It can store large amount of data in the computer. There are two types of storage device in the computer.
i) Optical storage device (CD ROM, DVD ROM)
ii) Magnetic Storage device (Floppy Disk, Hard disk,)
i) What is computer software? How do you classify them?
Ans: A set of instructions given to the computer in programming languages to solve problems or to control different operations of the computer is known as computer software. It is the collection of programs which makes computer work.
We can classify software in different types:
System Software (operating software, Language processor, Device driver, Utility software)
Application Software (Tailored software, General software)
j) What is system software? Write its types.
Ans:  System software is a set of programs that control the operations of a computer and peripheral devices attached to the computer. It also create link between computer and user.
operating software, Language processor, Device driver, Utility software are the types of system software.
k) What are the basic tasks performed by system software?
Ans: The basic task performed by system software are given below:
i) Monitoring the use of all the hardware components.
ii) Communicating with peripheral device like printer, webcam etc.
iii) Create links between user and computer.
iv) Managing the files and folders.
v) Running the application software.
l) What is application software? Write some application packages.
Ans: A set of programs that are used to solve particular problems of the user through computer is called application software. These software are created specially according to the user's need.
Some application software packages are:
i) Tailored or customized software: payroll system, banking system etc.
ii) General or packaged software: Word pad, paint, power point etc
m) What is the difference between system software and application software?
Ans: Difference between system software and application software are given below.
System Software
Application Software
1.System software is used for operating computer hardware.
1.Application software is used by user to perform specific task.
2.System software are installed on the computer when operating system is installed.
2.Application software are installed according to user’s requirements.
3.Some examples of system software are compiler, assembler, debugger, driver, etc.
Some examples of application software are word processor, web browser, media player, etc.
