a. What is a computer?

Ans: A computer is an electronic machine that can perform different kinds of tasks according to a set of instructions given to it.

1. Why is a computer called Information Processing Machine?

Ans: A computer is used to process raw data according to the set of instruction given to it and produce meaningful information so the computer is called Information Processing Machine.

C. Write the ability of each computer.

Ans: The ability of each computer are: 

i. Accept data and instructions given by the user i.e. Input

ii) Process the data according to the set of instructions. i.e. processing

iii) Store and give information according to the requirement of the user i.e. Output.

d. What do you mean by Computer Literacy?

Ans: Computer Literacy means knowing about computers, understanding their utility as tools, and knowing how to use and control them. 

e. Write any four features of the computer.

Ans: Any four features of the computer are: High speed, Accuracy, Diligent, and Storage.

f. Why is the processing speed of a computer very high? 

Ans: The electrical signal is transmitted through the computer circuitry at the speed of light so the processing speed of a computer is very high.

g. What is GIGO? 

Ans: The computer does not make any mistakes. If wrong data and instructions are given as input then only it will produce wrong information which is known as Garbage In Garbage Out (GIGO). 

h. List out the application areas of a computer.

Ans: Some application areas of computers are: Education, Office, Entertainment, Bank, Hospital, Shop, Supermarket, research, Engineering, etc. 

i. How is a computer used in education?

Ans: In education, field computers are used to teach different subjects in a better and more interesting manner. Computer helps student do their homework. 

j. How is the computer used in the medical field? 

Ans: In the mediacal field computers are used to keep records of the patients. It helps to monitor the condition of patients like blood pressure, heartbeat, pulse rate, etc. 

k. Write any four advantages of a computer.

Ans: Any four advantages of computer are given below:

a. It helps to perform the different tasks quickly, easily, and accurately.

b. It helps to keep huge data and information securely.

c. It saved time and effort and reduce the overall cost.

d. It helps students to access all information on the internet.

l. Write any four disadvantages of computers.

Ans: Any four disadvantages of computers are as follows:

a. Because of its speed and accuracy we are facing unemployment in the society.

b. Most of the young generation are wasting their time on social networking sites.

c. Some people are using computers for criminal activities.

d. Using a computer for a long time may cause health problems.
