Basic Concept of Number System
Answer the following questions:
a) What is number system? Who developed decimal digits?
Ans: A number system is the basic element to present the actual number or value and express the quantities. Decimal number system was developed by Hindu Philosopher.
b) What is binary number System? Write its base value.
Ans: The binary number system is a method of representing numbers that counts by using combinations of only two numerals or symbol: zero (0) and one (1). Binary number system use only 2 digits 0 and 1 so its base value is two.
c) Write the digits and symbols used by hexadecimal number system.
Ans: The digits and symbols used by hexadecimal number system are: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, A, B, C, D, E and F.
d) Why octal number system has base eight?
Ans: An octal number system uses eight digits i.e. 0 to 7 so its base value is eight.
