Computer System
a. What is a computer system?
Ans: A computer system is a set of hardware and software which processes data according to instruction in a meaningful way.
b. What are the main hardware components of computer systems?
Ans: The main hardware components of computer systems are:
a. What is a computer system?
Ans: A computer system is a set of hardware and software which processes data according to instruction in a meaningful way.
b. What are the main hardware components of computer systems?
Ans: The main hardware components of computer systems are:
Hardware and Software.
c.What is an input device? Mention its functions.
c.What is an input device? Mention its functions.
Ans: The devices that are used to give input data and instruction to the computer are known as input devices. The main function of the input device is to convert the data and instruction into computer-understandable form.
d. What is CPU? Mention its function.
Ans: The CPU is the main processing unit of the computer that works with an operating system and executes a set of instructions and controls different devices. It also controls the flow of data by directing the data to enter the system. Sending data to ALU for processing. These are the main functions of the CPU.
e. What is computer memory? Why does a computer need primary memory?
Ans: Computer memory is the storage unit of a computer that store the data, instructions, and programs in the computer.
Primary memory is needed for computers because it holds currently running program data and instructions and supports the programs.
f. What is a control unit? Mention its functions.
Ans: Control unit is the part of the CPU that works with the operating system to control and coordinate the entire computer system.
The functions of CPU are:
i) It sends the input from the input devices to the memory unit.
ii) It gets the instructions from the memory.
iii) It decodes the instructions.
iv) It gets the data required by the instruction.
g. What is output device? Mention its functions.
Ans: The devices that are used to present or display the result after processing data are known as output devices. eg. Monitor, Printer, Speaker.
The function of output devices are:
i) It accepts the result produced by the CPU.
ii) It converts the binary form of results to human readable forms.
iii) It shows the converted result to the user.
h. What is a storage unit? Why is it required?
Ans: The devices that are used to store data, instructions, and programs in the computer are called storage units.
There are two types of storage units primary memory and secondary memory. Primary memory holds currently running programs, data, and instructions and the secondary storage unit holds data and programs permanently to make them available when they are required to use on the computer.
